"SAVING THE WORLD - ONE DROP OF WATER AT A TIME!"
We are the Quail Valley Elementary Thinkinators, a team of fourth and fifth graders at QVE in Missouri City, Texas who are competing in the 2012 Destination Imagination Tournament. As part of our challenge, we are helping our school and our communities become aware of the Global Water Crisis.
Did you know that every 15 seconds, someone in the world dies because of the lack of clean drinking water?
Did you know that there are many children in the world who miss school each day because they are sick from drinking dirty water or because they must walk up to 7 miles to the nearest source of clean water for their families?
We are committed to raising awareness of the Global Water Crisis.
We need your help.
1. Families are challenged to conserve water by turning off the water faucet while brushing teeth, watering the lawn less often and only during the morning hours, avoiding wasting water by playing in the sprinklers, taking short showers instead of long showers or baths, and drinking an entire bottle or glass of water and not pouring it out!
2. We are collecting change to donate to build wells in countries affected by the crisis. Send in your loose change and donations for our “Change for Change” contest! Complete the contact donation form below to send in your donations!
3. We will also have a walk-a-thon on Thursday, February 9th, at 6pm, here at QVE - 3500 Quail Village Drive Missouri City, Texas 77459. Please register to attend our community walk-a-thon event to raise awareness for the children who walk miles to collect water for their families. Entry fees are $5.00 a person. We will have snacks, prizes, and a raffle! (REGISTRATION IS CLOSED - PLEASE SEE OUR PICTURES FROM THE EVENT)
4. Also, do not ever throw your trash into a waterway or ditch; our water becomes someone else's water. Do you want to drink water filled with trash?
On April 5th and 28th, we will be cleaning up the local community parks and waterways. Join us and help clean up what could be someone else's drinking water one day.
